The importance of the youths in societal building cannot be overemphasized; no wonder in a sane clime budgetary allocation to the youths categories usually is very significant knowing that the return on investment targeted on this category is usually directly proportional to the input due to the productivity index of this class unlike the extremes of age.
Using education as the assessment tool on investment in youth development, Nigeria’s budget for education was 7.2% in 2022 and 8.8% in 2023 (the premium Time; Nov., 2022) as against 26% recommendation by UNESCO, whereas Ghana increased from 17.9% in 2022 to 21.40% of her allocation to education in 2023 (https://thebftontline.com, Dec., 2022) and South Africa received 20% of her budget to education in 2022 and still recorded dysfunctional education system ( BusinessWire; Oct, 2022). This goes a long way to show how much attention given to the youths or the productive class in Nigeria, imagine south Africa attaining 20% as against 26% recommended by UNESCO still complained of dysfunctional education system, you can then imagine the functionality of Nigeria system in this context!
It is obvious we have gone far beyond zero mark in investing rightly (productive age group): the reason our economic and social systems have experienced hiccups overtime and remedy appears to be nowhere near reality!
Although, our system still stager for stability after many years of independence, our youths have remained resilient and unrelenting in search of solutions to the chronic problems facing them: the quest for self development and social networking!
While we employ government (from local to federal)to brace up to her social and fundamental responsibilities like other thriving countries, we also encourage our Youths to be more exhaustive of the laden potentials in us, manifesting our real selves and eschew crimes and negative tendencies!
Unarguably, any youths who accesses leadership position should lead by example and leave a landmark positive impacts that could turn out to be the hope of the teaming others on the row! Let no youthful leader be more senile than his youthfulness, much is expected of your class!
